NEWS DESCRIPTION:

ACO’s Board is currently seeking a qualified individual to join the Board and to assume the role of Treasurer of the organization and Chair of its Finance Committee.

The Treasurer is a member of the Executive of ACO’s Board, with overall responsibility for high level financial oversight of ACO on behalf of the Executive Committee. Day-to-day financial activities are the responsibility of ACO’s Chief Operating Officer (C.O.O.) and bookkeeper. An external auditor prepares the annual financial statements.

Duties of the Treasurer include chairing the Finance Committee, and with the help of the Committee and staff, oversight of annual budget preparation; oversight of investment portfolio; liaising with the bookkeeper and C.O.O. for preparation of financial records; monitoring implementation of financial controls and, with the assistance of staff, presenting audits, financial statements and financial policies to the Executive and Board. These duties, as well as participating in Executive and Finance Committee and Board meetings, require approximately 5-7 hours per month. There is no remuneration for ACO Board roles.

The ideal candidate would have the following qualifications:

 

  • Experience with not-for-profit accounting;
  • CPA, CMA, CGA or equivalent financial credential would be preferred;
  • 3-5 years’ experience working in a financial management role;
  • Familiarity with CRA regulations regarding charitable organizations;
  • Not-for-profit Board governance experience desirable, but not essential;
  • Interest in or involvement with heritage, architecture or cultur
