In 1960, the year it opened, Parkside won National and International awards for design and innovative use of materials. The swooping curve of the entrance was created with a revolutionary method for precast concrete panels with exposed stone. In spite of a vigorous campaign to save it, demolition began January 2017. By mid-August the entire structure was gone, the site was reseeded with grass and is expected to remain a passive public open space for approximately two years, until Grove Cemetery fills up and new cemetery space is needed in Dundas.
