Sargent House, 1901

“A good example of a residential vernacular building that is part of the residential historic streetscape of Charles Street."

Home of Doug Sargent, 1923-1997, former Georgetown Councillor, Mayor, Reeve, and Warden of Halton County.

For the first time in its history, at ACO urging, Halton Hills Council used its power, under the Ontario Heritage Act, Part IV to consider designation of this property, in spite of opposition by its owner. Heritage Consultant’s report that property “is not a good candidate for designation” caused that notice of intent to be withdrawn. House offered free to anyone who would remove it but no interest. The Sargent House is now demolished.
