EVENT DESCRIPTION:Tour Description
Join us for a walking tour along the Humber River Recreational Trail to visit the The Oculus in South Humber Park. Learn about ACO and Giaimo's vision to restore The Oculus, and transform it into a vibrant public space. We'll explore the site and the surrounding context, including recent murals and initiatives along the Humber River and trail connecting to the park and pavilion. Kim Storey, Partner at Brown+Storey, will provide insights into the pavilion's cultural value and heritage.

Walk Details
This event is free and open to the public, but space is limited so registration is required. Due to high demand, we are offering two walking tours on November 10, one at 2PM and one at 4PM. Please ensure you attend the specific time slot you register for.
We will meet at the south-west side of the Humber Bay Arch Bridge, along the Martin Goodman Trail. The walking tour will start here at the bridge, then head north along the Humber River Recreational Trail and end at The Oculus in South Humber Park. While this is only a 1.1KM walk, we anticipate it will take 45 minutes with the stops, talks, and any questions.
We recommend you wear comfortable shoes, dress for the weather (November starts to get chilly!), and bring a water bottle. Dogs are welcome and must be kept on leash.

The walk will be led by project co-leads Stephanie Mah, VP of ACO Toronto, and Joey Giaimo, Principal at Giaimo. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions, provide feedback, and share their thoughts on the future of The Oculus.

The Oculus Revitalization Project
This walking tour is part of ACO and Giaimo's community initiative to revitalize The Oculus in South Humber Park, Etobicoke. The project is one of five selected for Park People's 2019 Public Space Incubator (PSI) Grant, funded by the Balsalm Foundation and Ken and Eti Greenberg.
Designed in 1958 by Alan Crossley, The Oculus is a fantastical space-age park shelter nestled in a meadow along the Humber River Recreational Trail in the City of Toronto’s South Humber Park. Over the last few decades, the pavilion has suffered significant neglect. This revitalization project aims to transform The Oculus into a welcoming community gathering place along the trail by restoring and cleaning the existing pavilion and implementing flexible and contextual outdoor furniture.
