The current Guelph-Wellington branch of the ACO was formed in January 2006.  An earlier branch dates back to 1969.  As with many ACO branches, heritage is most at-risk when the community is complacent about preservation.  

Between 2003-06, Guelph had a particularly non-heritage-friendly City Council.  During this period, a number of significant buildings were put at-risk or demolished.  The local heritage community realized that our built heritage cannot be left to the whim of political will.   Today, with over 80 local members and growing, our voice is stronger as part of the ACO.
